What is an aerobic treatment system?
An aerobic septic or aerobic treatment system (ATS/ATU) is a wastewater treatment solution that uses oxygen and aerobic bacteria to break down organic matter more efficiently than a traditional septic system.
Meeting Florida's enhanced nutrient-reduction (ENR) requirements
Florida now requires enhanced nutrient-reducing onsite systems (ENR-OSTDS) in certain areas under House Bill 1379 (Chapter 2023-169), particularly near sensitive springs and waterways. These advanced systems are engineered to remove far more nitrogen than a conventional septic tank before effluent reaches the ground.
Anytime Septic installs and services advanced treatment units that meet these standards — including the Infiltrator ECOPOD-Edge, which is certified to NSF/ANSI Standard 245 for nitrogen reduction. If your property falls in an ENR area or you simply want cleaner effluent and less strain on your drainfield, we'll help you choose and permit the right system.
Benefits of aerobic treatment systems
Enhanced Treatment Efficiency
Breaks down waste more effectively, producing cleaner clarified effluent.
Higher Capacity
Handles larger wastewater volumes, good for larger homes and higher usage.
Smaller Footprint
Efficient treatment often means a smaller system needing less land.
Odor Reduction
Minimizes the odors common to wastewater treatment.
Flexibility
Can be designed for specific site conditions and stricter Florida regulations.
Improved Effluent Quality
Higher-quality treated water, safer to discharge and sometimes reusable for irrigation.
Less Drain-Field Strain
More thorough treatment reduces load on the drain field, potentially extending its life.
Environmental Benefits
Reduces the risk of contaminants reaching groundwater and surface water.
How aerobic systems work — and how they differ
Aeration
Unlike traditional anaerobic systems that rely on natural decomposition, aerobic systems introduce air into the process, usually via an air pump that continuously supplies oxygen.
The Aerobic Treatment Process
The aerated environment grows aerobic bacteria that break down waste more efficiently, producing cleaner effluent than anaerobic systems.
System Components
Aerobic systems typically include a treatment/aeration tank plus a separate drain field or disposal area where treated effluent is dispersed.

How we set and connect advanced treatment units
Every advanced-treatment install starts with the right tank sized to your household and site, set level in a properly prepared excavation, then connected with clean, code-compliant inlet and outlet plumbing.
Aerobic units add an external blower and a control panel with alarm and monitoring, so the system is easy to service and keeps you inside your county's inspection and permit requirements.
